SAMBA NOV 25: A fresh controversy has erupted in Jammu & Kashmir after Rajya Sabha MP and BJP J&K President Sat Sharma stated that admission to Vaishno Devi University should be granted only to those who hold faith in the shrine.
Speaking to reporters, Sat Sharma said that the university carries religious significance, and therefore, who have belief in Mata Vaishno Devi should be given preference for admission.
Sharma also revealed that a BJP delegation had recently met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, expressing their concerns and expectations regarding the issue.
He added, “We have full faith that the LG will take a decision soon.”
The statement has sparked renewed debate over whether educational institutions should be linked with religious identity, especially in a Union Territory that has been advocating for secular and inclusive academic spaces.
The matter is likely to gain further political traction as stakeholders await the administration’s response.
