Srinagar, October 29: Chief Minister Omer Abdullah, senior leader Sakina Itoo, and other prominent figures today released the biography “Durr-e-Naayaab” — a tribute to the life and legacy of Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo — at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.

Speaking at the event, attendees fondly remembered Wali Mohammad Itoo as a man of integrity and vision, whose dedication to public service continues to inspire generations.

Omer Abdullah in his speech shared a deeply personal recollection, saying, “Although I never had the opportunity to work alongside Itoo Sahib, I did see him — and that moment left a lasting impression. I still remember the summer of 1984 when some leaders broke away from Farooq Abdullah’s government. Wali Mohammad Itoo, who was then the Speaker, was offered temptations — money, gifts, promises — but his faith and integrity never wavered.”

He added, “If only those events had turned out differently, perhaps the situation in Jammu and Kashmir today would not have been the same. But destiny took its course. What matters most is that Itoo Sahib left behind a legacy defined by honesty and courage.”

The speaker also praised Sakina Itoo, daughter of the late leader, for carrying forward her father’s mission with determination. “By entrusting his courageous daughter to continue his vision, Wali Mohammad Itoo gave us a leader who has faced every challenge with grace and strength. Sakina Itoo and her colleagues have worked tirelessly to complete this important task — ensuring that future generations understand the sacrifices and principles of Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo through this book.”

The book “Durr-e-Naayaab” stands as a testament to the life, sacrifices, and enduring ideals of one of Jammu and Kashmir’s most respected leaders.
