In a major legislative move, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has introduced the Rent Authority Bill (No. 4 of 2025) in the Legislative Assembly.

The proposed legislation seeks to regulate property rentals, safeguard the rights of both landlords and tenants, and establish a mechanism for the speedy resolution of rent and lease-related disputes.

According to the government, the bill aims to bring transparency and balance in tenancy agreements while ensuring that conflicts between landlords and tenants are resolved efficiently through a dedicated Rent Authority.

With this new bill, the government hopes to modernize Jammu and Kashmir’s rental framework and strengthen trust between property owners and tenants, setting the stage for a more transparent housing market.
