Doda , Jan 15 : A 17-year-old Class 12 student from Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir was found dead on Tuesday, a few hours after the announcement of the board examination results, triggering shock and grief across the area.
The student, identified as Revansh Sharma from Paryote village, had appeared in the Class 12 examinations this year. According to preliminary information, he had failed in the Economics subject and was reportedly under distress after checking his result. He was later found dead under circumstances that are now being examined by the police.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Doda, with residents and family members expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the young student.
Reacting to the tragedy, Doda West MLA and BJP leader Shakti Raj Parihar expressed anguish over the incident, stating that no examination or marksheet is more important than a human life. He described the death as heartbreaking and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
Parihar said the incident reflects the intense academic pressure students face in a highly competitive environment. He stressed that failure in an examination should never be seen as the end of the road and called upon parents, teachers and society to provide emotional support to students during challenging times.
He also underlined the need for stronger counselling mechanisms and mental health support systems in educational institutions so that students do not feel alone or overwhelmed.
The incident has once again brought focus on the issue of academic stress among students, particularly during result seasons. In recent years, similar cases linked to academic pressure have been reported, raising concerns about the lack of adequate mental health support for young learners.
Police officials said they have taken cognisance of the matter and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. Further details are awaited.
