Check Dam: A Failure Of All Ruling Governments Of J&K

In 2010 JK Government established a Check Dam after spending 2 crore rupees in the Dhalot area of Samba to provide water to the cultivated lands for irrigation. But instead of providing water, the dam has been a failure. The only benefit of this dam is that it joins small villages near the dam with the main road of Samba. Many people have drowned in the dam due to an increase in water level and many casualties have been reported in the dam. No government after 2010 ever looked to start the dam and now the dam is in miserable conditions.

While talking to the media a local said “in 2010 when this dam was built it raised many expectations of the farmers living in the nearby villages but the dam failed to provide water. Also, the path built on the dam is so narrow that 2 people can’t walk together at a time. In the rainy season when someone gets ill then the people of the village are unable to carry the patient to the hospital In a cot through this dam. Till now 3-4 people have died. We want that the government should build a bridge on the dam which will provide better connectivity and should restart the I’m which will attract a lot of tourists. Also, we want that the government should fix a board with all the information about the dam and 2 guards should be appointed near the dam for the safety of the public”.
