The Casual Labor United Front today again protested near the press club in Jammu with demands to make their posts permanent and increase their salaries. Last year the J&K government assured them that the government will fulfill their demands after the DDC elections but no step has been taken in the matter till now by the government. Casual labor has also announced that they will celebrate the black day on 26th January when the whole of India will be celebrating Republic Day.
A protestor while talking to the media said “from 2008 we are working as temporary workers and despite several appeals, the government has not fixed us as permanent workers. We demand that the government should make us permanent workers and should increase our salaries”.
J&K teacher association president said ” we are supporting all the daily wagers working in different departments. We ask our LG why the administration is looking into the matter. Now we warn the J&K government that either they should meet the demands of and form a regulation policy for these workers otherwise lakhs of teachers will leave their houses to join these workers in their protest.
This is not the first time casual labor is protesting for their rights. For the past many years these workers are protesting but all the ruling government has only assured them but no one has ever done something for them. Every time these workers complained that with the salary they are receiving it is difficult for them to look after their families. Also, they are unable to celebrate festivals as they don’t have enough money.
