BSF jawan, kingpin of Pakistan smuggling racket, dismissed

BSF constable Sumit Kumar, who was posted in J&K’s Samba district before his arrest earlier this month, was dismissed for his alleged involvement in smuggling activities and connivance with anti-national elements.
The resident of Magar Mudian village in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district was described as the kingpin of Pakistan-sponsored drugs and illegal arms smuggling racket by Punjab Police. Kumar was arrested by the BSF on information of Punjab Police on July 11 from his place of duty from Indo-Pak international border and a 9mm pistol, two magazines, 80 rounds of 9mm ammunition, two rounds of 12 bore ammunition were recovered from his possession.
Kumar was handed over to Punjab Police for investigation and a case was registered against him at Katarpur police station (Jalandhar Rural) under relevant sections of the IPC, NDPS and Arms Acts. On July 13, Punjab Police recovered more than Rs 32 lakh from his house at Gurdaspur.
Kumar is learnt to have facilitated the initial entry and delivery of 15 packets of heroin across the border fence, while in the second instance he was involved in the influx of 25 packets of heroin and a Zigana 9mm pistol over the border fence on the Indo-Pak border where he was deployed. He kept the pistol for himself after the delivery of heroin to some unidentified persons. He had received Rs 39 lakh for the successful receipt of drugs and weapons consignments and their further delivery in two tranches of Rs 15 lakh and Rs 24 lakh.
“After suspension, a departmental court of inquiry (CoI) was ordered by the BSF which was completed in record time against Constable Sumit Kumar and facts emerged that while he was deployed at international border he connived with anti-national elements / trans-border smugglers and facilitated them in crossing of narcotics substances and pistol from his place of duty in month of July 2020,” the BSF said on Wednesday.
