Body of Teenager Retrieved from Jhelum in Srinagar after 4 Days

The body of a teenager named Saqib Ahmad Ahanger, son of Abdul Kalam Ahanger from Kupwara, who on the evening of 25 June jumped into Jhelum near Noorbagh area of Srinagar, was retrieved from the water body on Tuesday in a joint operation by police and locals.

According to the sources, the boy was 17-year-old, and he shot a video before jumping into the river.

The police have taken the body under custody, and after the legal formalities, the body will be handed over to the family.

Man arrested for raping minor

A man was arrested in Baramulla district of north Kashmir for allegedly raping a minor girl inside a forest area, police said on Thursday.

A complaint was received in police station Uri in the district on Wednesday by a person alleging that his minor daughter, aged about 13 years, was raped and threatened by a man, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan alias Muna Khan, in the forest area, a police spokesperson said.

He said a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered in police station Uri and an investigation is underway.

“During the course of investigation, the police team after utilising all available means and due to strenuous efforts arrested the accused within hours of the complaint received by police. He has been shifted to the police station, where he remains in custody,” the spokesperson said.

As part of the investigation, necessary medico-legal formalities have been carried out, he added.

Train crushes man to death

A man was crushed to death by a train at Qazigund in south Kashmir district of Anantnag on Friday.

Official sources said that panic gripped Badragund in Anantnag when a man, identified as Ghulam Nabi Chopan, was crushed to death by a train on Srinagar-Banihal route at around 1100 hrs on Friday. The locals immediately informed the police, they said, adding a team was rushed to the area and the body was taken away.

After completing all the legal and medical formalities, the body was handed over to his relatives for last rites.
Police have registered a case and initiated investigation into the incident
