Big scam: COVID Care Centres fraud at Panchayat Level: Details

Lieutenant Governor’s decision of covid care centres with 5 fully equipped beds in every Panchayat was well received by the public. However, a fraud in Budgam’s Panchayats facilities has led the Administration down once again.

According to Gulistan News’ report, a covid care centre at a Panchayat in Budgam set up in a Government School had only an arrangement of 4 temporary beds without oxygen support. The Panchayat workers informed Media that they had personally paid for some things while the others were on rent.

“Our Block members instructed us to arrange beds, mattresses and sheets for covid patients in our Panchayat. Everything is handled by Sarpanch and Panchayat Secretary. We paid for these things ourselves. The BDO isn’t answering our questions. I don’t know when we’ll get our money back.” a Panchayat worker said

“On the ground level, people borrowed mattresses during Administration’s tour of the District. After that, they returned it back – a poor arrangement. When I asked ACD about the matter, he quoted ‘Everything is fair in war’. This statement doesn’t suit the present conditions. The recovery rate is high and positive cases have declined.” Gulistan News reporter said

There are 296 Panchayats in Budgam district and Administration’s per Panchayat budget has been amounted to 1 lakh. However, the funds haven’t been received by the workers yet except 2 masks, 6 tablets and a cloth.

“The isolation centres arranged at Schools is a big failure. No cleanliness, no hygienic toilets, no water facility and no electricity. How will a covid patient survive? The beds temporary, unfit for a common man. It would be a better decision if 3-4 Panchayats were clubbed together for the arrangement.” Raja Muzzafar, an activist said
