A bank guard and a civilian were injured after unknown gunmen opened fire after forcing their entry inside a bank branch in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday.
Reports said that gunmen barged into Mohamadpora branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank with an intention to loot cash.
However, the bank guard opened fire to prevent the heist.
The gunmen, according to a report, retaliated by firing their guns, resulting in injuries to two persons, including the bank guard.
Both the injured were shifted to district hospital Kulgam for treatment. “The civilian Ashiq Hussain had sustained a bullet injury in his hand. He was discharged after treatment. The bank guard has sustained a bullet injury in his leg,” said a health official.
“Militants in the afternoon hours today barged forcibly inside a branch of J&K Bank at Mohanpora in district Kulgam. The militants fired due to which some people got injured. However, no cash could be looted from the bank.”
“In the process, two civilians and a bank guard sustained injuries. One civilian sustained injury on his arm while the other got injured in his leg.”
“They were subsequently shifted to nearby hospital for medical attention. Soon police reached at the spot and has started an investigation.”
