Srinagar, Jan 24: After a heavy snowfall spell on Thursday night, parts of Kashmir Valley received additional snowfall during the intervening night, while rains affected Jammu. Areas including Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipora, and Kishtwar recorded a few more inches of snow. Rajouri town also experienced a rare snowfall, officials said. Meteorologists attributed the snow to a strong cold air mass associated with the Western Disturbance, which caused temperatures to drop sharply, even in normally warmer regions. Weather experts expect conditions across Jammu and Kashmir to remain largely dry over the next 48 hours. Another Western Disturbance is forecast to approach from Monday afternoon, January 26, bringing the possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall. Meanwhile, major roads including the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), Mughal Road, SSG Road, and Sinthan Road remain closed due to adverse weather. Authorities have urged commuters to avoid travel on these routes until they are declared safe and to rely only on official Traffic Police updates. Flight operations at Srinagar Airport were also affected, with at least seven flights cancelled due to a NOTAM at Delhi Airport and unfavorable weather conditions. Passengers are advised to confirm flight status with their airlines before heading to the airport.
