Rajbari, Bangladesh: A Hindu man was beaten to death by a mob in Rajbari district late Wednesday night, just days after the lynching of 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh. Local police said the violence was linked to extortion and criminal activity, not communal tensions.

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Amrit Mondal, also known as Samrat, was reportedly demanding extortion money in the area when villagers attacked him around 11 pm. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead at approximately 2 am.

Police said Samrat was the leader of a local gang called “Samrat Bahini” and had at least two criminal cases against him, including a murder charge. One of his associates, Mohammad Selim, was detained, and authorities recovered two firearms from him, including a pistol and a locally made one-shooter gun.

Authorities emphasized that the incident was driven by criminal disputes rather than religious or communal motivations, while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the lynching.
