In the past few months, the reports of theft of vehicles have increased in Jammu. A similar theft was reported on 5th January from the Janipur area near Trimurti Mandir where a silver-colored Tavera car bearing number JK02AU0712 was stolen from outside the house. In the CCTV footage, it was found that the thieves also arrived in a white Tavera car.
While talking to the media the car owner said “my cousin took the car to our relative’s house and when he was returning the thieves were following him. As my cousin parked the car the thieves also parked their car at a distance and waited for some time as there is a shop outside our home. When the shop got closed the thieves firstly switched off all the nearby street lights and tried to open the door but they were unable to open the door so they brought help and then opened the door and took the car”.
Another family member said ” for the past 4 years we are parking our car here but no such incident ever happened. We are regularly visiting the police station but the police have not yet filed an FIR. In the last week, about 3 thefts have been reported in Janipur”.
A local said “we are compelled to park our cars outside as our streets are very small and the cars can’t enter. But with such incidents of theft, we are now afraid to park the vehicles outside. We request the police that they should start patrolling the area at night”.
