Two men suspected to have been involved in a deadly blast in Punjab’s Amritsar district have been caught on camera. The duo were seen on a motorcycle near the Nirankari Bhawan complex.
On Sunday, three people were killed and ten injured in a blast at the Nirankari Bhawan in Rajasansi. The blast occurred during a religious congregation of the Nirankari, a spiritual organisation, in Adliwal village.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh for anybody providing information on those involved in the grenade blast . Information can be provided at police helpline – 181.
The Punjab government said the identity of the informers would not be revealed.
Eyewitnesses said two young men arrived on a motorcycle and threw a bomb inside the Nirankari Bhawan complex where a large gathering of people were attending a satsang. Around 200 people were inside the complex at the time of the blast, Inspector General of Police (Border) Surinder Pal Singh Parmar said.
The Nirankari sect has regular Sunday meetings.
Rajasansi is located next to the international airport in Amritsar. The Nirankari sect has millions of followers in Punjab and around the world. Rajasansi is home to not just the airport but also an Indian Air Force Station nearby.
The incident happened at around noon.
The injured were rescued and taken to different hospitals in Amritsar. Four of the injured are said to be critical. They are receiving medical attention.
