Firing stops by morning; longest anti-terror op of decade continues; Authorities issue emergency helpline contacts for civilians

Kulgam, Aug 8 : The ongoing anti-terror operation in Akhal village of Devsar, Kulgam has entered its 8th day on Friday, with authorities maintaining a strict cordon around the area even as no fresh exchange of fire was reported since morning.

Official sources informed, “There were heavy exchanges of fire and several blasts during the night. The situation is now under control, and the operation is in its final phase.”

The operation, which began last week, is now being termed as one of the longest anti-terror efforts in Kashmir in recent years.

Sources said that it is the dense forest belt surrounding the village, making the clearance operation time-consuming.

“Due to the difficult terrain and possibility of explosives, the forces are proceeding with caution to avoid casualties. Our priority is to ensure the safety of both civilians and security personnel,” sources added.

Authorities have also advised residents of Akhal to stay indoors and report any suspicious movement.
