Srinagar, Jan 20: In view of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, Srinagar Police on Tuesday carried out large-scale search operations across several rural pockets of the district to ensure foolproof security arrangements, officials said.
According to police officials, the extensive search operations were conducted in Takanwari, Karnabal, Shallbug, and Bakshipora areas located on the outskirts of Srinagar. The exercise was aimed at strengthening the security grid and preventing any untoward incident in the run-up to January 26.
Officials said that teams of Srinagar Police, assisted by other security agencies, conducted thorough searches of residential houses, open fields, and suspected hideouts as part of heightened security measures ahead of the national celebrations.
“These operations are part of routine area domination and preventive security exercises. The focus is to maintain peace, ensure public safety, and deny any space to anti-national or anti-social elements during the Republic Day celebrations,” an official said.
He added that such operations are regularly carried out ahead of important national events to maintain a strong security presence and instil a sense of safety among the public. Police personnel were directed to follow standard operating procedures while conducting the searches and to ensure minimal inconvenience to residents.
Meanwhile, security arrangements across Srinagar city have been further intensified, with enhanced frisking and checking at all major entry and exit points. Additional security checkpoints and nakas have been set up at strategic locations to monitor movement and strengthen surveillance.
Officials said that patrolling has been increased in both urban and rural areas, while night patrols and surprise checking drives are also being conducted to maintain round-the-clock vigilance. Security forces have been placed on high alert to respond swiftly to any suspicious activity.
Police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with security personnel during checking and verification drives. People have also been urged to immediately report any suspicious movement, unattended objects, or unusual activity to the nearest police station or control room.
Authorities reiterated that public cooperation remains crucial in maintaining peace and ensuring the smooth conduct of Republic Day celebrations. They assured that all measures are being taken strictly in the interest of public safety and national security.
Republic Day, observed annually on January 26, commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of India and is marked with enhanced security measures across the country, especially in sensitive regions.
