New Delhi, Nov 20: Afghanistan’s Trade and Industry Minister Nooruddin Azizi is arriving in New Delhi today for a five-day official visit aimed at reviving economic engagement and strengthening bilateral trade mechanisms between India and Afghanistan.

According to official sources, Azizi will hold high-level talks with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The discussions are expected to focus on boosting bilateral trade, improving connectivity routes, and ensuring a smoother flow of essential commodities to Afghanistan. India has remained one of Afghanistan’s key trade partners, especially in food supplies, pharmaceuticals, and humanitarian essentials.

This visit assumes significance as it marks one of the most prominent engagements between the two sides since the change in Afghanistan’s political landscape in 2021. Indian officials are likely to raise issues related to secure trade corridors, enhanced market access, and mechanisms for humanitarian assistance.

Azizi is also expected to interact with business chambers in New Delhi to explore opportunities for expanding Afghan exports, particularly agricultural and dry-fruit products, to the Indian market.

Diplomatic observers say the visit is a notable outreach from Kabul and could help restart several pending commercial initiatives while strengthening people-centric ties between the two nations.
