Srinagar, Aug 20 : The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against 14 accused persons, including 11 officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), a Revenue official, and two private beneficiaries, in connection with illegal building permission and encroachment of State land at Barthana, Qamarwari.

The case (FIR No. 04/2019) was registered after allegations that SMC officers, in connivance with Revenue authorities, fraudulently issued building permission in the name of late Ghulam Qadir Sofi, who had died in 2008. His son, Mohammad Arif Sofi, misused the permission and raised a commercial building in violation of approved drawings, also encroaching adjoining State land with the help of manipulated revenue records and official support.

ACB said the investigation, backed by oral and documentary evidence, proved the conspiracy beyond doubt. After securing sanction for prosecution, the chargesheet was filed before the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar.

The case has been listed for further hearing on October 7, 2025.
