J&K , Feb 19 : A man from Jammu and Kashmir has been arrested near the Red Fort in Delhi for allegedly posing as an officer of the National Investigation Agency and cheating families by promising jobs in the capital. A minor boy was also rescued from his custody.
According to Delhi Police, the arrest was made on February 18 by a patrol team from Police Station Kotwali. Officers noticed a black Hyundai Santro parked under suspicious circumstances behind the Red Fort near Delhi Chalo Park.
When questioned, the accused, identified as Mudassar from Pulwama, produced an identity card claiming he was an NIA officer. Police found the card to be forged and took both him and the minor to the police station for further interrogation.
Preliminary findings suggest the accused targeted economically vulnerable families, offering to arrange jobs in Delhi in exchange for money. In this instance, he allegedly took advance payment from the minor’s family before bringing the boy to Delhi. They had left Kashmir on February 12 and were staying at a guest house in the Jama Masjid area.
An FIR has been registered under Sections 319(2) and 339 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which correspond to Sections 419 and 474 of the IPC. Further investigation is underway.
