Katra, Feb 18 : A new temple complex dedicated to Adi Shankaracharya is set to be constructed in the Trikuta hills of Reasi district, close to the revered Vaishno Devi Temple. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will lay the foundation stone of the project in Katra on Wednesday.
The Shri Shankaracharya Temple project was first conceived in 1967 but remained pending for decades. It has now been revived in 2025 and is being taken forward by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
The temple complex will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹31.51 crore on 41 kanals of land donated by local landowners. Plans include the construction of a motorable access road, basic pilgrim amenities such as toilets and drinking water facilities, and around 50 commercial shops, primarily for landowners.
Officials said the project is aimed at enhancing the spiritual experience of pilgrims visiting the Trikuta hills while also generating economic opportunities through better infrastructure and local employment.
A meeting of stakeholders is scheduled for this afternoon to discuss various aspects of the project and address local concerns.
