Jammu & Kashmir, Feb 16 : Security agencies have issued a high alert following intelligence inputs about a possible fidayeen attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities suspect that five suspected terrorists belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed may have infiltrated Indian territory through the Hiranagar sector along the India–Pakistan International Border.
As part of heightened security measures, posters displaying images of five suspected terrorists have been pasted across Kathua town and nearby border areas. Security agencies have appealed to the public to immediately inform the police if they notice any movement or receive information related to the suspects. All security forces have been placed on high alert.
According to intelligence sources, a fidayeen squad of five Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists is believed to have crossed over from Pakistan with the intention of targeting security forces. In view of the threat, strict instructions have been issued to all security agencies to remain vigilant. Security has been significantly tightened around army, police, and other security force installations, as well as key buildings across Kathua district and adjoining areas.
Border regions are under strict surveillance, with close monitoring of all movement in and out of sensitive zones. Sources further revealed that on Sunday, keeping the suspected terror plot in mind, security agencies displayed posters of the suspects on walls and electric poles at multiple locations in Kathua town.
Meanwhile, suspicious movement of three individuals was reportedly observed in the Malad area of Lohai-Malhar, further intensifying security concerns.
In a related development, the District Magistrate of Kathua has imposed restrictions on night movement within a five-kilometre radius of the border area in the Hiranagar sector, from Paharpur to the Karol Krishna border post. The order, effective for two months, bans civilian movement during night hours. Additionally, the movement of heavy vehicles on border roads has been prohibited between 9:00 pm and 6:00 am.
Security agencies continue to maintain heightened vigilance as operations to trace the suspected infiltrators are underway.
