New Delhi, February 14: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, remembering their bravery and sacrifice.

In a post on X, Gandhi said the nation will forever remain indebted to the brave soldiers who were martyred in the attack, and described their sacrifice in defence of the country as unforgettable.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid homage to the fallen personnel, stating that their courage and service continue to inspire every Indian. Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan offered his respects as well, saying the sacrifice of the CRPF personnel will always remain etched in the nation’s memory.

The Pulwama attack, one of the deadliest terror strikes in Jammu and Kashmir, took place on February 14, 2019, when a convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force was targeted on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in Pulwama district. Forty personnel were killed in the attack.

Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed had claimed responsibility, stating that the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber. The incident led to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan and was followed by a series of counter-terror operations by India, including airstrikes on terror camps across the border.

The day is observed as a reminder of the sacrifice of the 40 CRPF personnel who lost their lives in the attack.
