JAMMU, FEB 13:
Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 32,425 cancer cases over the last three years, with lung, oral, cervical, prostate and pancreatic cancers emerging as the most commonly reported types.

This information was shared by the J&K Health Ministry in a written reply to a question raised by Waheed ur Rehman Para, MLA from Pulwama, in the Legislative Assembly.

According to the data, cancer cases have shown a worrying trend across different age groups, with lifestyle-related factors, tobacco consumption, and late diagnosis cited as major contributors. The Ministry informed the House that lung and oral cancers account for a significant proportion of cases, particularly among men, while cervical cancer remains one of the leading cancers among women.

The Health Ministry further stated that efforts are being made to strengthen cancer screening, early detection, and treatment facilities across the Union Territory. These include awareness campaigns, upgrading oncology services in government hospitals, and referrals to specialized cancer institutes.

The reply underscores the growing public health challenge posed by cancer in Jammu and Kashmir and highlights the need for enhanced prevention, early diagnosis, and accessible treatment infrastructure across both urban and rural areas.
