Chittorgarh/Srinagar, February 12: Thirty-three Kashmiri students at Mewar University in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh have been suspended after staging a protest over the alleged lack of mandatory approvals for the B.Sc Nursing course.

The students claim that the programme has not received recognition from the Rajasthan Nursing Council (RNC) and the Indian Nursing Council (INC), both of which are required for the validity of nursing degrees, professional registration and employment prospects.

According to the students, more than 50 Kashmiri students are enrolled in the course, and the absence of statutory approvals has put their academic future at risk. They allege that the university administration had assured them that recognition would be secured. The Registrar had reportedly issued a written commitment last year promising early resolution of the matter.

However, the students say no tangible progress has been made and no clear timeline has been communicated. Frustrated over the continued uncertainty, they launched a protest seeking clarity and immediate action from the university.

Following the protest, 33 students were suspended, a move that has triggered concern among families in Jammu and Kashmir. The students maintain that raising genuine academic concerns should not invite disciplinary action and insist that ensuring regulatory compliance is the responsibility of the institution.

They have demanded urgent intervention to resolve the approval issue and safeguard their academic and professional future.
