Srinagar, February 12: Security forces on Wednesday launched a cordon and search operation in the Panthachowk area of Srinagar, leading to heavy deployment across several adjoining localities and temporary movement restrictions along the highway stretch.

According to initial reports, the operation was carried out jointly by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and paramilitary forces following specific inputs about suspicious movement in the area. Multiple entry and exit points were sealed as a precautionary measure.

Eyewitnesses reported a large presence of security vehicles and armed personnel conducting searches in residential areas and nearby open spaces. Commuters faced brief inconvenience along the busy Srinagar-Jammu National Highway passing through Panthachowk.

Officials said the cordon and search operation was launched as a preventive and intelligence-based measure. Door-to-door searches were conducted in certain sections, and identity verification checks were also carried out.
