Srinagar, Feb 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday made it clear in the Legislative Assembly that there is currently no proposal under consideration to allot five marlas of land to residents living in border areas.

The clarification came in response to a question raised by MLA Dr. Rajeev Kumar Bhagat, who sought to know whether the government was planning to provide land at safer locations to families residing along the border.

Replying to the query, the Minister in-charge of Revenue informed the House that no such proposal is presently being examined by the government.

The response effectively rules out, for now, any move to provide land allotments as a rehabilitation measure for border residents who frequently face hardships due to cross-border tensions and shelling incidents.

Border residents in several districts of Jammu region have long demanded safer relocation options and additional protective measures, especially in vulnerable villages located close to the International Border and the Line of Control.

However, as per the government’s reply, there is no formal plan at this stage to allot five marlas of land to affected families.
