Srinagar, February 11: Six residential houses were partially damaged after a fire broke out in the congested Habakadal area of Srinagar late Tuesday night. A fireman and two civilians sustained injuries during the incident.

According to officials, a distress call was received by the State Fire Control Room at 10:32 PM. Within a minute, fire tenders from Fire Stations Habakadal, Babdem, Gowkadal, Headquarters and Syed Hameed Pora were rushed to the spot.

Given the densely populated locality, additional reinforcements from Maharaj Gunj, Rainawari, Safakadal, Rawalpora, Nowshhera and Nowgam were also deployed to control the blaze.

During the firefighting operation, Fireman Fameed Ahmad (FM-1853) suffered grievous injuries to his hand and was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. Two civilians were also injured and taken for medical care.

Officials said that two to three gas cylinders exploded during the incident. The damage was confined to the attic portions of six houses.

The operation was supervised at the site by Deputy Director, Fire and Emergency Services, Dr Mir Aqib Hussain, while Aijaz Ahmad Shah coordinated mobility and response efforts.

ADGP Alok Kumar urged the public to exercise caution while using electrical appliances and LPG cooking gas.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is under investigation.
