New Delhi, Feb 9: Amid continued disruptions in the Lok Sabha, Engineer Rashid, Member of Parliament from Baramulla, on Monday entered the well of the House and urged members to ensure that Parliament is not held hostage to political animosity between the Congress and the BJP.
As the Lok Sabha has remained largely non-functional for the past six days, Engineer Rashid raised strong objections to repeated adjournments, saying the House must be allowed to function to address the issues of the people. Shouting from the well, he appealed to members to “let this House function” and focus on public concerns rather than partisan confrontation.
The Baramulla MP Er Rashid said Parliament does not belong to two parties alone and pointed out that many members sitting in the House represent voices outside the Congress–BJP framework, who are being denied the opportunity to speak due to continuous disruptions.
Engineer Rashid stressed that prolonged paralysis of proceedings undermines democratic functioning and deprives people of effective representation, particularly during crucial sessions meant for discussion on public issues and governance.
