India , Feb 8 : India and Malaysia on Sunday announced several initiatives to strengthen cooperation across defence, security, semiconductors, and trade, following wide-ranging talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur.

After the meeting, PM Modi said India and Malaysia share a “special relationship” and are committed to expanding ties across multiple sectors. He also reiterated India’s firm stance on terrorism, stressing that there can be no ambiguity in dealing with the threat.

“Our message on terrorism is clear; no double standards, no compromise,” the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday and was accorded a red-carpet welcome, with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim personally receiving him at the airport. Ahead of the talks, Modi was given a ceremonial welcome at Perdana Putra, the Malaysian Prime Minister’s office complex.

Highlighting the historical and cultural links between the two countries, Modi said India and Malaysia are maritime neighbours with centuries-old people-to-people ties.

“India and Malaysia share a special relationship. For centuries, our people have had deep and affectionate ties,” he said, adding that Malaysia is home to one of the largest Indian-origin populations in the world.

The Prime Minister said both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and maritime security, while making defence cooperation more comprehensive.

He also said India and Malaysia would advance partnerships in emerging and critical sectors such as artificial intelligence, digital technologies, semiconductors, health, and food security.

Touching upon regional issues, Modi said the Indo-Pacific is emerging as a global growth engine and reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace, stability, and development across the region in partnership with ASEAN nations.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the two countries continue to expand collaboration in key areas including trade, investment, connectivity, and defence, reflecting the growing depth of the bilateral relationship.
