JAMMU FEB 05: The Jammu and Kashmir government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, today tabled the Economic Survey 2025–26 in the Legislative Assembly. The survey sets the tone for the upcoming budget and outlines the overall economic direction of the Union Territory, focusing on growth, employment generation and fiscal stability.
The Economic Survey 2025–26, presented by the Omar Abdullah–led government, provides a comprehensive overview of Jammu and Kashmir’s economic performance over the past year. The document assesses key sectors including agriculture, industry, services, infrastructure, education and healthcare, while highlighting challenges and opportunities ahead.
According to the survey, the government’s priority remains accelerating economic growth, creating employment opportunities—especially for youth—and strengthening public infrastructure across both urban and rural areas. The survey also places strong emphasis on fiscal discipline, efficient public spending and improving governance mechanisms.
The Economic Survey is expected to form the foundation of the J&K Budget, which will be presented in the Assembly shortly. Opposition parties are likely to closely scrutinise data related to unemployment, investment inflows and sector-wise growth during the budget debate.
The tabling of the Economic Survey is being seen as the first major economic roadmap of the Omar Abdullah government, offering insight into its policy priorities and development vision for Jammu and Kashmir in the coming financial year.
With the Economic Survey now tabled, all eyes are on the budget presentation, which will test the government’s ability to translate economic assessments into concrete policy action.
