Jammu, Jan 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has ordered the temporary suspension of mobile internet services in select areas of Kishtwar district as a precautionary security measure, officials said.

According to the official order, mobile data services, including 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G, have been suspended in Singhpora, Chingam and Chatroo areas of Kishtwar from 12:01 am on January 29 till 11:59 pm on January 30.

The order was issued by Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti, following inputs from the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, the authorised officer under the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024.

Officials said the suspension covers a six-kilometre radius around each of the identified locations. The move was taken to prevent the possible misuse of high-speed mobile data services by anti-national elements, which could pose a threat to public order and security.

The Home Department said the decision was taken in the interest of the sovereignty and integrity of India, security of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and maintenance of public order. The suspension has been confirmed under the provisions of the Telecommunication Act, 2023 and the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024.
