Uttarakhand, Jan 29: An 18-year-old Kashmiri boy selling shawls with his family in the Vikas Nagar area of Uttarakhand was assaulted by a group of people on Tuesday evening, leaving him with a fractured arm and serious head injuries, officials said.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, the boy was questioned about his identity before the situation escalated. The association claimed that the attack intensified after the assailants learned that the family was Muslim and from Kashmir.

In a statement, the association said the boy was beaten repeatedly, including with iron rods, and other family members were also assaulted. They were allegedly dragged, slapped, and attacked during the incident.

The injured youth was first taken to a local hospital and later referred to Doon Hospital in Dehradun due to the severity of his condition. Officials said he suffered head injuries, fractures, and multiple bruises across his body.

The association described the incident as a case of communal profiling and mob violence against a family engaged in seasonal trade to earn their livelihood.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association urged Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to intervene, ensure registration of a strict FIR, and take action against those involved under relevant legal provisions.

“This case must be taken seriously to send a clear message against such acts of violence,” the association said.
