Calls honour a recognition of fearless journalism and commitment to democratic values
Srinagar, Jan 26:
Senior BJP leader and party spokesperson for Jammu and Kashmir, Altaf Thakur Monday extended warm congratulations to senior journalists Sarosh Kafeel (News18), Ishfaq Gowhar (Gulistan News), Khalid Hussain (Zee News), Inayat Jehangir (PTI) and Bilal Bhat (ANI) on being conferred with the prestigious State Awards on the occasion of Republic Day.
In his congratulatory message, Thakur also extended greetings to journalists from the Jammu region who were honoured with State Awards, saying the recognition reflects the collective contribution of the media fraternity across Jammu and Kashmir.
Thakur said the awards are a tribute to the unwavering commitment, professionalism and ethical reporting demonstrated by journalists while working in challenging conditions. He said the awardees have, through years of hard work, integrity and courage, strengthened the pillars of democracy in the Union Territory.
“Journalists in Jammu and Kashmir play a crucial role in keeping the public informed with accuracy and balance. The awardees have upheld the highest standards of the profession and served society with dedication,” Thakur said.
He added that journalism in the region demands not only professional excellence but also resilience and responsibility. “These honours will inspire young media professionals to follow the path of truthful and people-centric journalism,” he noted.
Stating that the State Awards announced on Republic Day symbolise national respect for service to society, Thakur hoped that the honoured journalists from both Kashmir and Jammu would continue to contribute positively towards strengthening democratic values and social harmony.
He wished all the awardees good health and continued success, saying their achievements bring pride to the entire journalistic community of Jammu and Kashmir.
