Handwara , Jan 18 : Handwara Police on Friday foiled an attempt to illegally transport essential commodities by seizing around 750 kilograms of rice at Vilgam.

Officials said the seizure was made during routine naka checking when a police team spotted a suspicious vehicle and stopped it for inspection. Upon checking, the vehicle was found loaded with a large quantity of rice. The driver failed to produce any valid permit or documents authorising the transportation of the commodity.

The entire consignment, weighing approximately 750 kg, was seized on the spot, and the vehicle was taken into police custody. An FIR has been registered at Police Station Vilgam under relevant sections of law, and further investigation has been initiated to determine the source and intended destination of the seized rice.

Handwara Police said the action is part of an ongoing drive against illegal transportation and black marketing of essential items. The public has been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any such illegal activities to the nearest police station.
