Srinagar , Dec 26 : The historic wall of Badshah Darwaza near the Makdoom Sahib Shrine, which collapsed in 2023, continues to remain unrepaired, drawing concern and frustration from residents of the area. Locals say the prolonged neglect has put a significant heritage structure at risk and reflects poorly on efforts to preserve Srinagar’s historical legacy.
Residents living nearby say the damaged wall is an important part of the cultural and architectural identity of the area. Apart from diminishing the site’s historic character, the collapse has also created safety risks and daily inconvenience for people passing through the locality.
“We have approached the concerned departments several times since the wall collapsed,” said a local resident. “Each time we were assured that repairs would be taken up, but nothing has happened so far. Watching such an important heritage structure deteriorate is deeply upsetting.”
Another resident said the lack of action shows a casual attitude towards heritage conservation. “If historical sites are allowed to decay like this, future generations will only know about them through stories, not by seeing them,” he remarked.
Despite repeated representations to civic and heritage authorities, residents say no concrete steps have been taken to restore the damaged structure. They are now urging the administration to step in without further delay and initiate restoration work to prevent additional damage.
The local community hopes that renewed attention to the issue will finally prompt action and help safeguard the historic Badshah Darwaza, which holds both cultural and historical significance for the area.
