Srinagar, December 23: The Youth Congress on Monday staged a protest at the Congress Party headquarters in Srinagar against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the hijab issue. The demonstration was led by Youth Congress President Yasir Mundoo along with several party workers.
Protesters raised slogans against the Chief Minister and burnt his effigy, accusing him of hurting the religious sentiments of Muslim women and violating their constitutional rights.
Addressing the gathering, Mundoo said the hijab is a matter of personal faith and individual freedom, and no government has the authority to interfere in it. He demanded an unconditional apology from Nitish Kumar and called for his resignation, terming his remarks and policies as insensitive.
The Youth Congress warned that protests would continue until what it called justice is delivered and the dignity of minority communities is upheld.
