Srinagar, Dec 23: The J&K and Ladakh High Court has asked the government to consider extending similar treatment to 93 staff members of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar as was granted to 384 others, whose academic arrangement-based engagements on paramedic and nursing posts were allowed to continue by the Supreme Court.
A bench led by Justice Sanjay Dhar directed authorities to examine the claims of the petitioners, who argue they are similarly placed to those whose services were protected under earlier Supreme Court orders.
The petitioners, engaged between 2011 and 2015 under the Jammu & Kashmir Medical and Dental (Appointment on Academic Arrangement Basis) Rules, 2009, cited their long-term service, technical expertise, and prior recommendations for regularisation. They contended that despite filing representations as early as 2019 and being similarly situated as those covered by Supreme Court interim protection, they were disengaged through termination orders issued on June 1 and June 6, 2023.
The court issued notices on the plea, emphasizing that authorities should consider equitable treatment for the 93 employees while the matter continues to be heard.
