Srinagar: Life around the iconic Dal Lake has become increasingly difficult as rising pollution levels and persistent fog continue to affect daily living. Residents, especially those who have recently settled along the banks of Dal Lake, are emerging as new victims of the growing environmental degradation. The deteriorating condition of the lake has not only impacted its natural beauty but has also begun to pose serious health risks to the local population.
With the onset of intense cold and winter conditions, Kashmir’s weather patterns indicate the possibility of snowfall on the 21st and 22nd of the month. All eyes are now on whether the predicted snowfall materializes, as it could bring temporary relief from dry weather conditions and improve air quality. Moreover, snowfall is expected to boost tourism, which has been adversely affected in recent times.
However, alongside these expectations, there is growing concern over the increasing number of health problems being reported due to prolonged dry weather and pollution. Respiratory issues, allergies, and other seasonal ailments are on the rise, adding to the hardships faced by residents.
While snowfall may offer some relief and revive tourism activities, the long-term solution lies in addressing pollution and environmental mismanagement of Dal Lake. The extent of relief and recovery—both environmental and economic—will only become clear in the days ahead.
