Handwara, Dec 14: Handwara Municipal Council has landed in controversy after it was found that none of the CCTV cameras installed across the town are functioning, despite lakhs of rupees being spent on the project.
Sources said around 26 CCTV cameras were installed in the main market area to strengthen surveillance and improve public safety. However, all of these cameras are currently non operational. The failure of the system has raised serious concerns, as no visual evidence would be available in case of accidents, thefts, or other criminal incidents.
The situation is equally worrying inside the Handwara Municipal Council premises. Several cameras installed within the municipal building are also not working, even though the complex houses equipment worth crores of rupees and includes the district’s largest cinema hall, which sees heavy public footfall.
