As part of the global celebration marking the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, the Department of Cooperatives Diskit, Nubra has announced a special community-oriented initiative ahead of the Losar festival. The department, through the Consumer Cooperative Super Bazar Diskit, has decided to offer nominal discounts on selected essential commodities for the residents of the region.
According to the official notice, the special discount sale will be held for two days only—on 12th and 13th December 2025—and will take place at the Sub-Divisional Headquarters. The move is aimed at providing relief to the public during the festive season while also promoting the cooperative movement and strengthening the role of cooperative institutions in local economic development.
Officials from the Department of Cooperatives stated that the rates for the discounted items will be fixed and displayed at the Super Bazar Cooperative Shop. Essential commodities under the scheme are expected to include daily-use items that are in high demand during the Losar celebrations. The department has encouraged residents to take benefit of the initiative and has advised them to go through the detailed notice for complete information regarding the commodities, pricing, and terms of the offer.
The discount initiative is part of a broader effort to highlight the contribution of cooperative societies toward community welfare, social responsibility, and economic empowerment. Cooperative institutions in Ladakh, especially in remote areas like Diskit and Nubra, continue to play a crucial role in ensuring availability of essential supplies at affordable prices.
This two-day discount sale is also seen as a gesture of goodwill timed with Losar, one of the most important traditional festivals in the region.
