The cold wave further tightened its grip on Kashmir as night temperatures across the valley remained well below the freezing mark, officials said on Tuesday.
Srinagar recorded a minimum of –3.1°C, the second coldest night of the season, a day after the city touched its lowest so far at –3.2°C.
Shopian emerged as the coldest location in the valley with temperatures plummeting to –5.4°C, followed by Pulwama at –5°C. Pahalgam registered –4.4°C, while Gulmarg recorded a low of –1.2°C. In the higher reaches, Zojila remained in a deep freeze at –16°C.
The region has been witnessing a prolonged dry spell since October, and the Meteorological Department has forecast mainly dry weather for the week ahead.
