The National Conference (NC) working committee resumed its meeting in Srinagar on Friday, with the party expected to adopt several key resolutions by the end of the two-day session.

The meeting, which began on Thursday, is focused on major organisational matters, public issues, political developments and strengthening the party’s outreach.

An NC leader said Friday’s session resumed under the leadership of party president Farooq Abdullah, with vice president and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also in attendance.

According to party insiders, the discussions aim to review recent political trends, assess the party’s performance, and outline the future strategy. The meeting comes shortly after the NC’s defeats in the Budgam and Nagrota assembly bypolls and amid internal tensions with Srinagar MP Ruhullah Mehdi.

In a significant move reflecting the rift, Mehdi was not invited to the working committee meeting, despite being a permanent member since 2002. Party sources said his disagreements with the leadership and his criticism of the government were discussed on Thursday.

Several members who could not present their views on the first day are scheduled to speak on Friday.
“Following these discussions, the committee will finalise a set of resolutions and take some decisions,” the NC leader said.
