JAMMU NOV 25: Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has issued a sharp statement asserting that educational institutions cannot and should not be run on the basis of faith.

In a clear message, the Chief Minister said that admissions in colleges and universities are never done on the basis of religion, and any attempt to link education with faith is both misleading and harmful for society.

Targeting the BJP, Omar Abdullah accused the party of pursuing “politics rooted in religious fanaticism”, saying that such divisive narratives undermine the principles of equality and secularism on which educational systems stand.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the government is committed to protecting institutional autonomy, ensuring that educational spaces remain neutral, inclusive, and free from communal interference.

Omar Abdullah added that the focus must remain on strengthening education, expanding opportunities for youth, and keeping politics away from classrooms.
