TAMIL NADU: The mortal remains of Wing Commander Namansh Syal, who died in the LCA Tejas crash at the Dubai Air Show, arrived at Sulur Air Base in Coimbatore on Sunday morning.
His body was flown back to India on a special aircraft. Before departure, the Emirati Defence Forces offered a ceremonial guard of honour as a mark of respect. The Indian Air Force had confirmed his passing after the Tejas aircraft crashed and caught fire during the event on Friday.
India’s ambassador to the UAE, Deepak Mittal, and Consulate General Satish Sivan paid their respects before the flight carrying the officer’s remains left for India. According to an official post, the Emirati Defence Forces honoured him for his service and courage.
Wing Commander Syal belonged to Nagrota Bagwan in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district. He is survived by his wife, who also serves in the Indian Air Force, their six-year-old daughter, and his parents. News of his death left his village in deep shock, with relatives and locals gathering at his home to mourn his loss.
