SAMBA NOV 21: The Bar Association Samba today staged a strong protest against the newly introduced Tenancy Act, demanding its immediate rollback.

Lawyers gathered in large numbers outside the court complex, raising slogans and calling the Act anti-people and against the interests of local citizens.

The protesting members of the Bar Association alleged that the new Tenancy Act threatens the rights of landlords as well as tenants, and could create long-term legal complications in property matters.

They warned that the Act, if not withdrawn, will lead to widespread exploitation and unnecessary litigation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the media, Bar leaders said that the Act was introduced without proper consultation with stakeholders, especially the legal community, which deals with tenancy matters on a daily basis.

The Association has urged the administration to immediately review the law and hold discussions with lawyers, civil society groups, and public representatives.

The Bar Association also warned of intensifying the agitation if their demands are not met.

With growing voices of dissent, the debate around the New Tenancy Act is expected to get louder in the coming days.
