India has stepped up assistance for its nationals after a tragic bus accident near Madina, Saudi Arabia, which involved several Indian Umrah pilgrims. Initial reports indicate multiple casualties and injuries following a collision between a passenger bus and a diesel tanker.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar reacted to the incident with deep concern, posting on X:
“Deeply shocked at the accident involving Indian nationals in Medinah, Saudi Arabia. Our Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate in Jeddah are giving the fullest support to Indian nationals and families affected by this accident. Sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
Soon after, the Consulate General of India in Jeddah announced the establishment of a 24×7 Control Room to coordinate assistance and provide real-time support to families.
The Consulate posted:
“In view of a tragic bus accident near Madina, Saudi Arabia, involving Indian Umrah pilgrims, a 24×7 Control Room has been set up in Consulate General of India, Jeddah.”
Indian officials in Riyadh and Jeddah are working closely with Saudi authorities on identification of victims, medical support for the injured, and all necessary logistics. More details are awaited as rescue and verification operations continue.
