Jammu, Nov 13:
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to play an active role in countering terrorism, stating that security forces alone cannot eliminate the threat without societal support. He was speaking at a special convocation ceremony at the University of Jammu.
The LG said terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is a multifaceted challenge, adding that communities must help security forces by identifying suspicious activities, countering radicalisation, and exposing those who aid or shelter terrorists.
“If society does not stand up strongly against terrorists, it becomes an existential threat that undermines peace, stability, and progress,” he said. Sinha appealed to “enlightened citizens” to come forward and unmask individuals who create extremist narratives or assist terror groups in any way.
Highlighting the heavy price paid by Jammu and Kashmir over three decades of violence, the LG said terrorism remains a fundamental obstacle to development. However, he noted a significant change in recent years, with youth increasingly aspiring for opportunities, growth, and a future aligned with the rest of the country.
He reaffirmed that security forces are determined to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem but added that collective vigilance and societal responsibility are essential to securing lasting peace.
