Srinagar | October 31:
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has once again reiterated that the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir will be restored at an appropriate time, as already stated by the Union Home Minister.

Speaking at a public function held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, the LG said that the Home Minister has clearly outlined the sequence — delimitation, elections, and then statehood.

“Some people are trying to befool the public on the issue of statehood,” Sinha said, adding that the Union Territory Government already has sufficient powers to function effectively and should utilize those powers for public welfare.

“The Home Minister has said it clearly — first delimitation, then elections, and then statehood. But some people are misleading the people. I want to make it clear that the UT Government has enough powers. It must use them and stop befooling the people on this issue,” the LG remarked.

Manoj Sinha emphasized that the administration must focus on governance, transparency, and accountability, ensuring that developmental goals are achieved efficiently.

His statement comes at a time when the political debate in Jammu and Kashmir has once again intensified over the restoration of statehood and the upcoming Assembly elections.

The LG’s remarks reaffirm the Centre’s position that the process of political restoration in Jammu and Kashmir will proceed in phases — beginning with delimitation, followed by elections, and culminating in the return of statehood.
