New York, Sep 27, 2025: India on Saturday dismissed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s claim of “victory” in the May conflict, stating at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) that the actual images of destroyed air bases and damaged military infrastructure tell a very different story.
Exercising India’s right of reply at the 80th session of the UNGA, Petal Gahlot, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, said the evidence was clear and visible to the international community.
“The facts speak for themselves. Several Pakistani air bases were heavily damaged during Indian military operations, with images of destroyed runways and burnt-out hangars widely accessible to the public,” Gahlot said. “If such destruction is interpreted as a victory, Pakistan is free to consider it so, but the reality is evident to the world.”
India’s statement highlighted the disparity between Pakistan’s claims and the tangible consequences observed on the ground during Operation Sindoor. Gahlot emphasised that photographic and satellite evidence clearly demonstrates the scale of the destruction inflicted upon Pakistan’s military infrastructure.
The response came amid Shehbaz Sharif’s address at the UNGA, in which he asserted Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people and reiterated claims about the May conflict. India’s rebuttal sought to clarify the facts before the international community, reinforcing its stance on the military operations and countering what it described as “misleading assertions” by Islamabad.
By presenting verified visual evidence and emphasizing the outcomes of the conflict, India aimed to provide a factual account that contrasts sharply with Pakistan’s narrative. The diplomatic exchange at the UNGA underscores the ongoing tensions between the two countries and India’s commitment to defending its position in multilateral forums.
