Bareilly, Sept 27: The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a massive crackdown following violent protests in Bareilly under the banner of “I Love Mohammad,” which left more than a dozen police personnel injured in the past 24 hours. The clashes broke out after Friday prayers, prompting authorities to swing into action with heavy deployment of forces and preventive detentions.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a firm statement, stressing that law and order will be maintained at all costs. “No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands. Strict action will be taken against those who indulge in violence,” the CM declared. He also directed senior police officials to ensure that peace and normalcy are restored at the earliest, while assuring citizens that the guilty will face exemplary punishment.
In a significant move, prominent cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza was detained by Uttar Pradesh Police today. Authorities stated that his detention was necessary to prevent further escalation and to maintain communal harmony in the district.
So far, at least 30 youths have been arrested for their alleged involvement in stone-pelting, violence, and disrupting peace. Police said more arrests are likely as video evidence and surveillance footage are being scrutinized. Security has been tightened in Bareilly, with flag marches and area domination exercises being carried out in sensitive localities.
The government has reiterated that those responsible for attacking police personnel or damaging public property will not be spared. Officials confirmed that cases have been registered against identified miscreants, and recovery of damages will also be pursued as per law.
